Dreame X60 Robot Vacuum Made Me a Better Mom. Really.

In this article

The routine was getting old. I'd finally get both kids down for bed and collapse on the couch. But the little ones' shrieks and giggles were always replaced by the silent screams of messes to be cleaned: The Cheerios under the table, mingling with dust bunnies. The dirt tracked in from the back yard. The sticky banana residue that I'd meant to wipe up.

My equally busy husband and I had considered hiring a cleaning service, but children are already expensive enough. And occasional cleaning help wouldn't relieve me of those constantly regenerating messes that built up by the end of every day.

After hearing me vent, a friend suggested getting a robot vacuum, but I was skeptical. Could a robot really handle all the dirt and grime properly? Was it safe around young kids? Would it need constant babysitting or actually make my life easier?

    Taking the Plunge

One night, I couldn't take another moment of that tired-yet-guilty feeling. So I pulled out my phone and searched for the robot vacuum of my dreams. With our house's complex layout, differing floor textures, and the messes my kids are capable of, some entry-level model wasn't gonna cut it. I needed something smart enough to truly take a load off my shoulders.

I was instantly drawn to Dreame's new X60 Max Ultra Complete, supposedly super quiet even with 35,000 Pa of suction power to fully remove evidence of my kids' dropping, spilling, and crumbling habits. Also intriguing was its AI-enhanced OmniSight system that could avoid almost all objects on the ground, Barbies and Legos included. And if this robot could work out its own routes and handle bumps in the road as it claimed, I wouldn't have to keep rescuing it while handling all the other things on my plate.

What really sold me was that it had an internal mop that could dissolve the grease and grime off of the floors my little ones spent so much time on. I wouldn't even have to worry about it getting musty and gross, as it would go back to its base station and sanitize itself at 212°F.

    My Moment of Truth

The Dreame box arrived, and it was surprisingly heavy, packed with enough accessories to make me wonder what I'd actually signed up for. But once everything was out, the base station itself wasn't nearly as bulky as the box made it seem. It's compact enough to tuck into a corner without becoming another thing my kids trip over on their way through the house. I lifted out the robot vacuum next. At a hair over 3 inches tall, it was slim enough to fit under the chairs that called to me every day, plus its automatic LED light would make sure it got every spot under there.

That night, I set up the vacuum to run through the main areas of the house. I sat back and it just… took care of everything I would normally have to struggle through myself.

I can feel the dual brushes spin fast and hit hard on our thick carpets, sweeping out days-old dust, crumbs, and hair as thoroughly as I would with a stick vacuum—except this time, it's all on autopilot.

With its CarpetForce system, it effortlessly transitioned between our wood floors and carpets, using a retractable pressure plate for a tight seal that thoroughly cleaned every carpet fiber.

And the volume level was no louder than a rainy day, so the kids carried on sleeping.

When it was all done, I didn't even need to refill or empty anything—the robot takes care of that by itself at its little dock. I even got to mindlessly scroll my phone for a moment without that nagging feeling that I was supposed to be doing something else.

Taking It to an Even Smarter Level

In a week or so, I got so used to sparkling floors and dust-free carpets every evening that I stopped waiting until after bedtime to run the robot. Getting there took some fumbling with the scheduling before I landed on 9am and 1pm, since that's roughly when the chaos peaks. We're doing baby-led weaning with my youngest, and she's always chucking food in every direction, so getting the timing right was a real game changer once I figured it out.

Before letting my baby out of her highchair, I tried standing in the robot's way to see if it really knew how to avoid me. Sure enough, it recognized me and immediately redirected itself. As a result, I knew I could let my baby crawl around without worrying it'd bump into her.

The scheduled cleanings meant no more avocado and shredded cheese tracked all over the house. No more wet socks from stepping in spilled milk I missed. All without my lifting a finger.

    Small Robot Vac, Big Differences

Less time and energy wasted on robot-worthy tasks has meant more capacity for whatever really needs my attention. During daytime, I don't have to keep saying, "Just a minute, baby" so much. In the evening, I've been taking on things I'd otherwise put off—sorting old baby clothes for selling and donation, planning my eldest's birthday party, and even reading for pleasure (remember that?).

The peace of mind is also huge. I don't worry about my crawling baby scarfing down days-old crumbs and mystery clumps from the ground. I don't have to watch over the cleaning process or deal with constant maintenance, as it's all handled automatically. I feel like a domestic goddess even though I'm less busy than before.

And… simply put, I just love the feeling of stepping on a clean floor that I didn't have to work for. All thanks to a little robot! Seriously, if you're on the fence, try Dreame's X60 Max Ultra Complete and you'll never go back.
