i have a type when it comes to little home electronics. dreame. dyson. shark. dreo. if a company makes something that quietly improves my house while looking reasonably civilised doing it, i’m listening. this little dreame air purifier has now joined the approved household appliance council.
the biggest thing for me is absurdly simple.
it does not beep.
my dog is deeply suspicious of electronic button sounds. not the machine itself. not the air moving. specifically the little confirmation beep appliances make when you press something, as though technology acknowledging your input is an act of aggression.
so every purifier i’ve owned has eventually involved me pressing a button and immediately looking across the room like, sorry babe, management required this.
this one?
silence.
absolute luxury.
it’s also genuinely quiet while running. i’ve been using it in the bedroom and it disappears into the background very quickly rather than producing that constant little fan hum that eventually becomes the only thing your brain can hear at 2am.
size wise, it’s hit a very nice middle ground for me. small enough that it can live on furniture without the room suddenly looking like i’ve installed medical equipment, but not so tiny that i’m staring at it wondering whether positive thinking is doing most of the purification.
it also just feels thoughtfully made. nothing about using it has required me to learn a new ecosystem, download three things or stand there holding two buttons while consulting a diagram.
i press the controls.
the machine behaves.
the dog remains emotionally stable.
this is what technological progress looks like.
and aesthetically, dreame generally understands the assignment. this one is clean and unobtrusive enough that i don’t feel compelled to hide it behind a plant, which is more than i can say for several appliances i’ve previously allowed into my home under protest.
if you’re new to my reviews, chai is currency. this is $69.99, so we’re talking about seven new york chais.
in this chaiconomy, seven chais for something i can keep in the bedroom that’s quiet, compact, straightforward to use and, critically, does not emotionally terrorise my dog every time i touch it feels fair to me.
especially because i’ve paid more for home appliances that somehow managed to be louder, uglier and considerably more needy.
✨tl;dr✨ quiet, compact, uncomplicated and blessedly free of button beeps. the dreame tp5 has been excellent in the bedroom, doesn’t dominate the room visually or acoustically, and my dog has not filed a formal complaint. seven chais well spent in this chaiconomy.
