Floor Vacuum FAQ
What is the best floor vacuum?
The best floor vacuum depends on how you clean. For spills and on-demand cleaning, a cordless model like the Aero Pro (25,000 Pa) works well, and the H15 Pro Heat adds ThermoRinse™ 185°F hot water and 22,000 Pa for greasy kitchen floors. For whole-home automated cleaning, the X60 Max Ultra Complete brings 35,000 Pa of suction, while the L60 Pro Ultra adds 3.47in (8.8cm) obstacle crossing for multi-level homes. Match the machine to your home rather than chasing a single winner.
What is a floor vacuum cleaner?
A floor vacuum cleaner is a powered machine that vacuums dry debris and washes your floors at the same time, in one pass. Separate clean and dirty water tanks keep you from ever mopping with recycled water. You can get one as a cordless model you push, or a robot model that cleans on a schedule. It is different from a standard vacuum, which only picks up dry debris, and from a liquid floor cleaner, which does no vacuuming. The vacuum and mop combo guide explains how the two functions work together.
Is a floor vacuum cleaner better than mopping?
For hard floors, in most cases yes. A floor cleaner machine vacuums and mops in one pass and lays down fresh clean water every time, while a traditional mop reuses dirty water and still needs a separate vacuuming step first. For grease and sticky messes specifically, ThermoRinse™ 185°F hot water lifts residue that a cold-water mop only moves around.
Can a floor vacuum cleaner be used on carpet?
Wet cleaning is for sealed hard floors only, such as tile, LVP, and hardwood. Robot floor vacuums can vacuum carpet in dry mode, and the mop pad lifts automatically when carpet is detected. Cordless wet-dry models are not made for wet cleaning carpet. For a home with both carpet and hard floors, a robot combo is the more versatile pick.
How does a floor vacuum compare to a regular vacuum?
A regular vacuum picks up dry debris only. A floor vacuum cleaner also washes the floor, dispensing fresh water on each pass and collecting the dirty water separately. The floor gets vacuumed and mopped in the same movement, so there is no separate mopping step afterward.
Do floor vacuums work for pet hair?
Yes, as long as the brush is built for it. On cordless models, TangleCut™ 2.0 cuts hair off the roller as it spins (Aero Pro and H15 Pro Heat). On robot models, the HyperStream™ Detangling DuoBrush clears strands up to 11.8in (30cm) without wrapping (L50 Ultra, L40s Ultra, and X60 Max Ultra Complete). Standard brush rolls wrap pet hair within days, so anti-tangle is the feature to insist on in a pet home.
How often should I use a floor vacuum?
For high-traffic hard floors like kitchens and hallways, daily or every other day keeps grime from setting in. Lower-traffic rooms like bedrooms or guest spaces only need to be cleaned 2 to 3 times a week.
